Announced from Cupertino, California, the new MacBook Neo from Apple aims to combine performance, premium design, and accessibility. The device features a durable aluminum body, a high-resolution display, and up to 16 hours of battery life — specifications that traditionally appeared in higher-priced Mac models.

What is the price of the MacBook Neo?

The MacBook Neo price starts at $599, positioning it as Apple’s most accessible laptop to date.

Apple is also offering a special education price of $499, aimed at students and educators who want to enter the Mac ecosystem at a lower cost.

Preorders begin March 4, while official availability starts March 11 through Apple’s online store, Apple retail locations, and authorized resellers.

With this launch, Apple appears to be targeting users who want a reliable laptop with premium features without paying the price of higher-end MacBook models.

Why did Apple launch the MacBook Neo as its most affordable laptop?

According to Apple, the MacBook Neo was built from the ground up to expand access to the Mac platform.

John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, explained that the company wanted to deliver a device that retains Apple’s design philosophy while reaching a broader audience.

“We’re thrilled to introduce MacBook Neo, which brings the magic of Mac at an incredible price,” Ternus said.

He added that the device combines Apple’s signature aluminum design, powerful Apple silicon, long battery life, and the seamless macOS experience.

What features does the MacBook Neo offer?

Despite its budget positioning, the MacBook Neo includes several premium specifications typically found in more expensive laptops.

Key features include:

• 13-inch Liquid Retina display
• 2408 × 1506 resolution
• Up to 500 nits brightness
• Support for one billion colors
• Apple A18 Pro chip with AI capabilities
• Magic Keyboard
• Multi-Touch trackpad
• 256 GB storage
• Up to 16 hours of battery life

The display is designed to deliver sharp text and vivid images, making it suitable for watching content, editing photos, or working with documents.

How fast is the MacBook Neo compared to other laptops?

Apple says the MacBook Neo powered by the A18 Pro chip delivers strong performance compared with many laptops in the same price category.

According to the company, the device is:

• Up to 50% faster in everyday tasks such as web browsing.
• Up to three times faster for on-device AI workloads.
• Up to twice as fast for creative tasks like photo editing.

Apple compares the laptop directly to the best-selling PC equipped with Intel’s latest Core Ultra 5 processor, noting significant improvements in performance.

The A18 Pro chip also includes a 16-core Neural Engine, enabling Apple Intelligence features to run directly on the device while maintaining user privacy.

Another advantage is that the MacBook Neo operates without a fan, allowing it to run silently.

What does the MacBook Neo design look like?

The MacBook Neo from Apple keeps the company’s recognizable minimalist design, featuring a durable aluminum enclosure with soft rounded edges.

The laptop weighs about 1.23 kilograms (2.7 pounds), making it easy to carry in backpacks or bags.

Apple also introduced a more colorful lineup compared to previous MacBooks. The laptop comes in four finishes:

• Silver
• Blush pink
• Indigo
• Citrus yellow

These colors extend to the Magic Keyboard and system wallpapers, creating a cohesive visual aesthetic.

How long does the MacBook Neo battery last?

One of the standout features of the new laptop is its battery life.

Thanks to the efficiency of Apple silicon, the MacBook Neo delivers up to 16 hours of battery life on a single charge.

This makes it suitable for students, remote workers, or anyone who needs a computer capable of lasting through a full day without charging.

What operating system does the MacBook Neo run?

The laptop ships with macOS Tahoe, Apple’s latest operating system for Mac.

The system includes built-in applications such as:

• Safari
• Messages
• Photos
• FaceTime
• Calendar
• Pages

macOS Tahoe also introduces Apple Intelligence features, integrating artificial intelligence into everyday tasks across apps.

Another advantage is the seamless connection with the Apple ecosystem, allowing users to work across devices like iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch using features such as:

• Handoff
• Universal Clipboard
• iPhone Mirroring

What connectivity options does the MacBook Neo include?

The new laptop includes several essential connectivity options:

• Two USB-C ports
• Headphone jack
• Wi-Fi 6E
• Bluetooth 6

The device also features a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, along with dual microphones with beamforming technology that help isolate the user’s voice and reduce background noise during calls.

For audio, the laptop includes dual speakers with Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos support, delivering a more immersive listening experience.

Is the MacBook Neo environmentally friendly?

Apple also emphasized the sustainability aspects of the new device.

The MacBook Neo was designed to have the lowest carbon footprint of any MacBook so far, according to the company.

Environmental measures include:

• 60% recycled materials in the device
• 90% recycled aluminum in the enclosure
• 100% recycled cobalt in the battery
• Packaging made entirely from recyclable fiber-based materials

These initiatives are part of Apple’s goal to achieve carbon neutrality across its operations by 2030.

Is the MacBook Neo worth it?

With a starting price of $599 — or $499 for education —, the MacBook Neo represents a significant shift in Apple’s laptop strategy by offering a more accessible entry point into the Mac ecosystem.

The device targets students, casual users, and professionals who want a reliable Apple laptop without paying premium MacBook prices.

With a Liquid Retina display, A18 Pro chip, up to 16 hours of battery life, and macOS Tahoe, Apple is positioning the MacBook Neo as one of the most competitive budget laptops in its lineup.
